Location and Accessibility
Situated amidst the vibrant and bustling Khajuri Bazaar area, Rajwada Palace is a magnificent reflection of Indore's grand and rich history. Its central location in the city makes it very easy to reach by various convenient modes of transport. The Indore Junction Railway Station is about 2 kilometres away, while the Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport is about 8 kilometres from the royal palace.

Historical Significance
Built between 1747 and 1766 by the founder of the Holkar dynasty, Mahan Malhar Rao Holkar, Rajwada Palace played an important role as a residence for the Holkar family. This magnificent palace has undergone numerous reconstructions in its history due to various damages caused by fires and wars during different times. The latest and most important restoration work was successfully carried out in February 2023, which not only ensured the structural strength of the building but also preserved its rich historical heritage that tells us about its glorious past.

Architectural Marvel
The Rajwada Mahal is a perfect example of a harmonious blend of different architectural styles, in this case, with Maratha, Mughal and French influences. This magnificent seven-storey palace boasts a variety of unique features:

  • Lower floors: Made of stone, providing a solid foundation.
  • The upper floors, which are made of fine wood, also add significantly to the grandeur and beauty of the palace.
  • Grand Entrance: A large and tall wooden door, which complements its regal appearance is beautifully trimmed with rows of dramatic iron studs.
  • Courtyard: An inner area surrounded by galleries and balconies.
  • Ganesh Hall: An arched hall in the Maratha style dedicated to Lord Ganesha.

The vast palace complex is complemented by exquisitely landscaped gardens, several fountains and a magnificent artificial waterfall, each of which adds immensely to its overall beauty and charm.
