Established in 1735 by the great Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar, a descendant of the famous Holkar dynasty, the Khajrana Ganesh Temple has stood for centuries as a poignant expression of unwavering faith and determination. This highly revered idol was discovered from the depths of a well, where it was deliberately buried in an attempt to save it from the idolatrous fury unleashed by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. This courageous act not only saved the deity from desecration but also went a long way in consolidating and celebrating the cultural heritage of the entire region.

The temple complex beautifully reflects a tasteful yet eclectic blend of architectural trends typical of the Maratha as well as the Mughal empires. Visitor Information

• Timings: The temple is open daily from 5:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Morning aarti is performed around 8:30 AM, 12:00 PM and 7:00 PM.
• Dress Code: Everyone visiting the temple is expected to wear traditional attire that reflects the cultural heritage of the place. To maintain and ensure the sanctity and respect associated with the temple, wearing western attire like T-shirts, shorts and jeans is strictly discouraged and should be avoided.
• Accessibility: Located in the Khajrana area of ​​Indore, the temple is easily accessible by road and is well connected to other parts of the city.

Annakshetra and Holy Prasad

• Annakshetra: A community kitchen run by the temple that serves free food to pilgrims from 11:30 AM to 3:00 PM. The fare usually consists of traditional food items like curry and khichdi, prepared with utmost cleanliness and devotion.
• Bhog Certificate: The prasad, or temple food offered to the Lord, has successfully received the prestigious Bhog (pleasant, clean offering to the Lord) certificate. The much-sought-after Bhog Certificate is issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), which exclusively tracks food safety standards. Due to this certificate, prasad like laddus are assured of very high quality and hygiene standards, thereby ensuring the health of all devotees who enjoy such divine prasad.
• Local delicacies: The temple area is surrounded by street stalls that offer a range of sweets and snacks like the popular Indori Poha, Jalebi and Samosa, so that visitors can enjoy a taste of local flavours.

• Devotees usually perform the ritual of tying a sacred thread inside the temple complex with sincere wishes and hopes. After their wishes are fulfilled and granted, they return to the temple to cut the thread.
