Located amidst the lush Western Ghats in southern Karnataka, this park truly represents India’s ecological heritage. Formerly the private hunting ground of the Maharajas of Mysore, this pristine forest is now declared a tiger sanctuary and biodiversity hotspot under Project Tiger (1973). It forms the core of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, which connects Mudumalai (Tamil Nadu), Wayanad (Kerala) and Nagarhole (Karnataka) to form one of the richest wildlife corridors in South Asia.

Spread over an area of ​​over 870 sq km, Bandipur boasts a wonderful blend of dry deciduous forests, grassy forests and gently rolling terrain, a rich diversity of flora and fauna and captivating forest stories.

  • The forest was previously ruled by the Wodeyars, who were among the early conservationists.
